Ports and hinterland transport

Abstract

The lecture will present liner shipping, mainly container shipping, terminals, particularly seaports, and the dry port concept, and benefits for the actors involved including seaports, port cities, shipping lines, hauliers, rail operators, and society. The main topics are: (1) liner shipping characteristics; (2) effects of containerization; (3) terminal functions; (4) hinterland transport of containers - seaports, dryports and shippers in op-operation.; (5) three dry port categories, close, mid-range and distant.

Professor Johan Woxenius教授简介：

Johan Woxenius is a Professor of Maritime Transport Management and Logistics at at the School of Business, Economics and Law at University of Gothenburg since 2008. He received the degrees of M.Sc. (Industrial engineering), PhD and associate professor/docent at Chalmers University of Technology. His main research field is intermodal freight transport and the research covers sustainability, industrial organisation, production systems, traffic designs, information systems and technology surveys and evaluations.

He currently researches transport chains in the research and education programme Lighthouse (www.lighthouse.nu). He is also on the board of the research centre Northern LEAD (www.chalmers.se/tme/lead-en) and manages University of Gothenburg’s part of the two universities’ logistics research programme.

His work has appeared in, e.g., International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management; Journal of Transport Geography; Journal of Transportation Planning and Technology; Research in Transportation Economics; Transport; Transport Reviews and World Review of Intermodal Transportation Research.
