Abstract
Container transport is a critical element in today’s global supply chains. Despite the importance, most of the research in this area has focused on the transport and handling perspective, while there is relatively little research that takes the supply chain perspective. In this talk, I will outline the research opportunities for supply chain researchers in this important area, and provide examples of work that we have conducted in our group over the past four years. Our group’s research focuses primarily on the so-called hinterland supply chain, i.e., the transportation from the deep sea port to the final customer and vice versa, which account for 40-60% of the total transportation costs in a typical intercontinental connection between Hangzhou and Frankfurt.
Prof.dr. Jan C. Fransoo 简介
Jan C. Fransoo is a Professor of Operations Management & Logistics in the School of Industrial Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, where he also serves as the Dean of the University’s Graduate School. Prof Fransoo holds a MSc degree in Industrial Engineering and a PhD in Operations Management, both from Eindhoven University of Technology. He has held visiting positions at multiple institutions, including Stanford University as a visiting researcher, at MIT as a Visiting Professor, and at the University of Ljubljana as a Honorary Visiting Professor. Fransoo serves as Associate Editor of Operations Research, as Senior Editor of Production and Operations Management, and on the editorial board of a number of other journals. He has published over 80 papers in a wide variety of journals, including Management Science, Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, MSOM, and EJOR.
