题 目:Threads of Success: New Empirical Generalizations from a Large Crowdsourcing Dataset.

摘 要: In this study, we study a pioneering crowdsourcing website, Threadless.com, which sources designs from a community of amateurs and independent professionals, solicits feedback from the community on the submitted designs, and then retails selected designs. Our study examines a carefully collected, novel, large scale dataset of over 150 million ratings, relating to over 150,000 designs on Threadless, submitted by over 40,000 designers. We focus on two questions. First, what is the conventional wisdom relating to crowdsourcing success—what factors influence the selection of designs by Threadless? Second, does the conventional wisdom stand up to scrutiny—can these factors be predictably and systematically linked to commercial success? The data suggests a substantive difference between the selection criteria of Threadless and the findings from our empirical analysis. We conclude by discussing the implications of our research for designers and firms seeking to ride the crowdsourcing tide.

Ping Xiao is Visiting Assistant Professor of Marketing at NYU Shanghai.She is also the Assistant Professor at NUS. She holds a PhD from Washington University in Saint Louis and a Bachelor degree from University of Science and Technology of China. Her research interests are Emerging Markets, Social Network and Social Media, Empirical and Theoretical Analysis of Competitive Strategies and innovation. Her work has appeared in Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing Research, etc. She is the Finalist of 2015 John D.C. Little Best Paper Award.

   肖萍目前是上海纽约大学的访问营销学助理教授,她也同时是新加坡国立大学的营销学助理教授。她获得了中国科学技术大学的本科和硕士学位以及美国圣路易斯华盛顿大学的博士学位。她的研究兴趣包括新兴市场,社交网络和媒体,竞争策略以及政府政策的实证分析以及创新。她的文章已经发表在顶级的专业期刊如营销学科学(Marketing Science),营销学研究期刊(Journal of Marketing Research)等。她和她的合作者2015年获得了John D.C. Little最佳论文的提名
