Preventive investment strategy analysis in the context of port competition and cooperation

摘 要:
With the growth of maritime transportation, seaports, as linking nodes between shipping and inland transport, are critical to world economy. This paper addresses the issue of investment on disaster prevention within the context of port competition and cooperation. The model discusses and compares four different situations of port relationship and strategy of competition and cooperation. The results in this paper indicate that both two ports will increase disaster prevention investment under cooperation scenario than that in the case of competition when they are complementary. Meanwhile, a numerical simulation is conducted to examine the collective and individual rationality. Although the cooperation strategy decreases the total cost of risk of two ports, it turns out that one of the two ports could make profits but the other one may suffer losses.
