摘 要：
We thoroughly investigate the relation of political stance and FDI flow around the world. With voting data from the general assembly of UN, we construct political affinity to measure two countries’ similarity of political stance. There is a positive and significant relation between political affinity and FDI net inflow. In the endogeneity test, we use a country’s ascendance to non-permanent member of UN as the instrument to capture an exogenous variation to its political stance with other countries, and find a causal effect on FDI net inflow. Cross-sectional identification tests suggest that the effect of political affinity on inflow of FDI depends on recipient country’s institutional quality, bilateral and multilateral. The research highlights the importance of political friction as impediment for FDI flow globally.
